Foot soaks for dry skin

The recipes below are considered the best foot soak for dead skin. Take note that to remove dead skin from feet at home, you’d need two basic things: warm water and a tub where you’ll soak your feet.

1. Olive Oil + Milk Foot Soak.

No less than Dr. Oz hailed olive oil as the “liquid gold.” This is because its health benefits are too many they can even fill a book. Olive oil is rich in skin-nourishing nutrients that can help soften the feet. Combine it with milk, which has the anti-bacterial lactic acid, and you’ll have the perfect recipe to get dead skin off feet.

2. Olive Oil + Lemon + Salt Foot Soak.

This recipe is a foot scrub and foot soak rolled into one. Both the salt and lemon have natural exfoliating properties, making them ideal foot scrub ingredients. Epsom salt is also rich in magnesium, a mineral vital for keeping your bones and heart healthy.

As for the foot soak, you can also add your choice of essential oils to make it more fragrant and to heighten the relaxing foot spa experience. After soaking, use a pumice stone to completely remove the dead skin off your feet.

3. Listerine + Vinegar Foot Soak.

You’ve read that right: Listerine, the famous mouth wash. I first heard about this a few years ago and didn’t take it seriously. But it’s not until it took the Internet by storm that I finally convinced myself to give it a try.

Listerine has Thymol, a natural fungus fighter, and other ingredients that help eliminate bacteria and fungi. Vinegar, on the other hand, has acetic acid which combats bacteria and in so doing helps remove dead skin off feet. Combine these two ingredients and you now have a surprisingly effective home remedy against smelly feet, toe nail fungus and dry flaky feet.

4. Milk + Baking Soda Foot Soak.

As I’ve mentioned earlier, milk is known for its lactic acid content. This acid fights bacterial growth and also helps in exfoliation of dead skin.

Baking soda, on the other hand, is abrasive which is why some use it as an alternative to toothpaste. While others question the safety of using baking soda on the teeth, there’s no doubt that its powerful pumice stone-like actions can benefit the feet.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar + Tea Tree Oil Foot Soak.

Apple cider vinegar has anti-bacterial properties while tea tree oil is a known anti-fungal essential oil. The combination is perfect not only for those with dry feet but also for people suffering from toe nail fungus.

6. Bentonite Clay Foot Soak.

Bentonite clay is one of the ancient healing clays that are largely forgotten in recent times. Also known as Montmorillonite, Bentonite is composed of aged volcanic ash. When dissolved in water, Bentonite clay produces an “electrical charge” which gives it an ability to absorb toxins and other impurities.

Although it’s a common ingredient in several skin care recipes, few know that Bentonite clay can also be added in a foot soak. Since it’s an expanding clay, you only need about 1 to 2 tbsp. of Bentonite clay. Dissolve it in a warm water and then soak your feet into the solution for about 10 to 15 mins.

The negative electrical charge of the Bentonite foot soak draws out the toxins and other feet impurities–including dead skin cells.

7. Epsom Salt + Lavender Essential Oil Foot Soak.

Both Epsom salt and lavender essential oil can benefit your feet by softening their skin. While soaking your feet, don’t forget to rub them with pumice stone to remove the dead skin off of it. Aside from healing dry, cracked feet, Epsom salt also replenishes the body’s supply of magnesium. Talking about hitting two birds with one stone.

8. Baking Soda Foot Soak.

When all you can find in your pantry is a box of baking soda, no need to fret. In fact, it’s already enough to make an effective foot soak.

Baking soda is known for its abrasive properties, the reason why it’s one of the most common home remedies for calluses. If you want to get rid of dead skin from your feet, simply dissolve 1/2 cup of baking soda for every gallon of warm water. Put the solution in a small tub or foot spa machine. Soak your feet for about 30 minutes.

Although you can rely on this baking soda foot soak alone, it won’t harm to add a few drops of your favorite essential oil.

9. Lemon Juice + Soap/Foaming Wash + Baking Soda Foot Soak.

This recipe combines ingredients which are easily found in your bathroom and kitchen. Lemon juice has astringent properties that help remove bacteria and control the sweat which causes foot odor. Baking soda, meanwhile, softens the skin and kills fungi.

To add some bubbles and give your feet a spa-style treatment, you can also pour soap or any foaming wash into the solution. Don’t forget to use pumice stones to completely remove the dead skin and other impurities from your tootsies.
